MicroEnergy International (MEI) is an international consulting company with headquarters in Berlin, Germany. The company implements projects in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. In these countries, MEI provides technical support to promote a decentralized energy transition, and towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by working with financial institutions, energy product & service providers, international development actors and policy makers to set up sustainable clean energy finance and implementation schemes.

In this framework, MEI takes care of the overall project management (from planning through implementation to evaluation), designing, evaluating and optimising energy products and services, and ensuring that financial instruments are tailored to the needs of the business sector and end-users.

The company is currently looking for an analyst to support the Technology and Energy Competence Centre (TECC) which consolidates MEI’s expertise in the areas of energy and finance and promotes knowledge transfer across all the MEI projects. TECC has years of experience conducting technology, supplier and financial analyses in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation and climate finance, among others.

This is a great opportunity to get first-hand experience in the areas of project management, inclusive finance, renewable energy, energy efficiency and promotion of sustainability in developing countries. The intern will work in a young and dynamic environment with an international and multidisciplinary team.

Description of tasks

Under the supervision of the Head of TECC, the research assistant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Literature and market research in the areas of: renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation and green finance;
  • Assisting the technical and economical evaluation of clean energy technologies, including but not limited to: solar PV, solar home systems, mini-grids, bioenergy and climate resilient solutions, within the framework of different projects;
  • Financial evaluation of projects in the context of microfinance;
  • Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned from previous projects in the field of energy and financial inclusion;
  • Support of the team during field missions or in background research for project acquisition activities;
  • Report writing and data analysis;
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned

Anforderungen:

Requirements

We are looking for people with the right competencies and skills for the role, and who demonstrate the personal qualities consistent with our values.

You should ideally:

  • be a student who needs to do a mandatory internship as part of his/her studies. A declaration from the University is required;
  • have an educational background in engineering, finance, economics, policy, management or a related field;
  • have a professional working knowledge of English (written and verbal) is necessary; knowledge of other languages will be seen as an advantage;
  • knowledge of design and planning software (e.g., HOMER, PVSyst/PVSol), or a programming language is a plus
  • have an advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel);
  • be a team player with strong communication and quantitative skills, as well as proactive attitude to tasks and responsibilities;
  • have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-moving environment with changing needs and deadlines.

The TECC team is also open to collaboration for thesis, if it is related to MEI's area of ​​interest / expertise, ideally aligned with an on-going or upcoming project.
