The Renewables Grid Initiative is a unique collaboration of NGOs and TSOs from across Europe engaging in an ‘energy transition ecosystem-of-actors’. We promote fair, transparent, sustainable grid development to enable the growth of renewables to achieve full decarbonisation in line with the Paris Agreement.

RGI is increasing the number of activities related to the protection and restoration of nature in connection with the energy transition, in particular the deployment of renewable energy sources (RES) and electricity grids both on land and in the offshore environment.

In 2020, RGI established a multi-stakeholder Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN) which today consists of 24 organisations representing NGOs, industry and TSOs active in the North and Baltic seas. The objective is to find sustainable solutions to increase the speed and scale of offshore wind and grid infrastructure developments. We are convinced that the energy, climate and biodiversity crises can and should be tackled in parallel. RGI is now establishing a Mediterranean chapter based on the same concept.

We are therefore looking for an individual with a sound background in the environmental field and strong project management skills to join our diverse team.

Specific tasks:

The Project Manager (PM) will work on the following projects and tasks:

Lead the environmental activities of the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN)

The PM will lead OCEaN’s collaborative efforts of defining sound environmental approaches and identifying practical actions that can be deployed at scale and bridged across different interest groups. These approaches should further support the speedy expansion of offshore renewable energy infrastructure. In this role, the PM will work together with the offshore team at RGI as well as with the members of OCEaN.

The PM will also contribute to other environmental activities at RGI, in particular those aiming at explaining the benefits of ecosystem protection and identifying effective restoration and mitigation practices (offshore and on land). Additionally, the PM will contribute to related fundraising and reporting tasks, e.g., provide input to fundraising proposals and periodic reports and publications.

Qualifications and skills:

Candidates should have:

  • Documented work experience of at least three years, ideally with an international component
  • Experience working on nature protection and public acceptance aspects related to large-scale energy infrastructure
  • Proven experience in project management, including the ability to work on multiple parallel tasks and present activities in front of large audiences
  • A degree in environmental sciences or a related field
  • An understanding of energy and environmental policies at the EU level, as well as an understanding of the different groups of stakeholders and their positions in the European environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and at least one other European language
  • Ability to work fully independently and highly efficiently and to structure own work
  • Ability and willingness to work closely with other team members and collaborate on other projects
  • Interest to engage with various stakeholders from industry as well as from the NGO/non-profit sector and beyond, and to lead a respectful and productive discussions with multiple partners
