For the energy system research group of PIK`s Research Department
3 on “Transformation Pathways” PIK is offering a
PhD position: Modelling of Global Hydrogen Futures (m/f/d)
(Position number: 25-2022-PhD position BOSCH)
The position is funded for at least 3,5
years and starting as soon as an excellent candidate is
found. Remuneration is in accordance with
the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg),
salary group E 13 (75 % for a doctoral
researcher). This is a full-time position with a
weekly working time of 30 hours per week. Appointment is
conditional on approval by the funding agency.
Key responsibilities:
Together with you, we want to explore various global hydrogen
scenarios. This includes the production and trade of hydrogen and
derived fuels as well as hydrogen-based basic materials (e.g.
primary steel) and future green value chains. Several
technological and political drivers will shape future hydrogen
markets such as technological progress, transport costs,
geopolitics and international cooperation, energy security and
diversification. You would be responsible for refining the
representation of hydrogen/PtX technologies in REMIND and
exploring plausible global hydrogen futures with a focus on
implications for Germany and the EU.
- Contributions to the development of the integrated assessment
modeling framework REMIND, with the representation of
hydrogen
- Model-based analysis of various technology and policy
solutions
- Participation in project meetings
- Presentation of results at international conferences
- Publication of results in scientific journals
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, Economics,
Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, System Sciences or a related
field
- Training in formal, quantitative methods, excellent
analytical skills
- Experience in research software engineering, programming
experience (e.g. R, GAMS)
- Active interest in energy systems analysis and climate change
mitigation
- Willingness to travel for work and participate in further
training
- Strong motivation and good organizational skills
- Team-orientation and strong communication skills in English.
