For the energy system research group of PIK`s Research Department
3 on “Transformation Pathways” PIK is offering a
Researcher position: Analysis of political economy constraints
for sectoral mitigation options (m/f/d)
(Position number: 27-2022-Researcher position ELEVATE)
in the field of International Climate Policy, starting
as soon as possible.
Candidates wishing to pursue a PhD in these areas with a PIK
supervisor as well as those already at postdoc level are
encouraged to apply.
The position is funded for 3 years. Remuneration
is in accordance with the German public tariff
scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13
(100 % for a postdoctoral and 75 % for a
doctoral researcher). This is a full-time position
with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. Appointment is
conditional on approval by the funding agency. The position can
be filled on a part-time basis.
Key responsibilities:
The focus of this position is on assessing the political economy
constraints for different sectoral mitigation strategies, and
ways to overcoming them (e.g. by policy sequencing or
compensation schemes for affected groups). Your position is part
of the EU’s Horizon 2020 ELEVATE project that brings together
leading global and national researchers and modeling teams to
develop new insights to support the preparation of national
climate policies.
- Developing a taxonomy of sectoral entry points and related
political economy constraints, and model-based analysis of policy
options for overcoming them
- Model-based analysis of various technology and policy
solutions
- Participation in project meetings
- Presentation of results at international conferences
- Publication of results in scientific journals
Requirements:
- Master's Degree or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Economics,
Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, System Sciences or a related
field
- Training in formal, quantitative methods, excellent
analytical skills
- Experience in research software engineering, programming
experience (e.g. R, GAMS)
- Active interest in energy systems analysis and climate change
mitigation
- Willingness to travel for work and participate in further
training
- Strong motivation and good organizational skills
- Team-orientation and strong communication skills in English.
