This position has primary responsibility for IT systems and services in a growing research-oriented environmental policy nonprofit currently numbering about 75 staff, with offices in the U.S., Europe, China, and Brazil and additional colleagues located in India and Southeast Asia. The position will be based out of either our Washington or Berlin office.

Working with the support of a managed IT services consultancy, the IT manager administers the organization's cloud platforms and services; manages vendors and service providers; oversees network infrastructure; provides direct, hands-on technical support; establishes and manages information security and data protection and privacy systems and policies; and contributes technical expertise and insight to the organization’s strategic planning for information technology systems and policy.

The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical and managerial skills, and the ability and willingness to shift fluidly among strategic planning, systems thinking, routine project management, and hands-on admin work.

Specific duties of the position will include, but are not strictly limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact between the organization and its managed IT services provider, Community IT Services, coordinating activities, collaborating with senior engineers, monitoring helpdesk services, facilitating long-range planning.
  • Manage the ICCT's Office 365 tenant.
  • Review, revise as needed, and manage information security, data protection, and privacy settings and policies in Office 365 and other cloud platforms.
  • Manage the ICCT's filesharing system. Complete an in-progress, long-range evaluation of the organization’s filesharing and data storage/management infrastructure. Plan and carry out improvements to that infrastructure as needed.
  • Collaborate with ICCT’s data management team and Community IT to plan, develop, and administer cloud-based data storage and computing services.
  • Manage other data backup systems in place, identify potential gaps or business continuity risks, and plan and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Maintain a robust, resilient infrastructure for virtual collaboration and remote communications across the organization. Manage videoconferencing and telecommunications systems.
  • Review internal operations and administrative processes and polices against best-practice criteria for information security, data protection, and privacy, and work with operations staff to refine and improve current practices as needed.
  • Oversee IT onboarding and offboarding of full-time and temporary staff throughout the organization. Develop and keep an inventory of organizational IT assets. Manage software licensing. Coordinate purchasing.
  • Provide regular training to staff, or obtain training from suitable outside sources, on information security, data protection and privacy, as well as software tools and general IT skills as needed.
  • Assist ICCT regional offices and teams to obtain local IT services or support, as needed, and oversee those service providers and arrangements to ensure the coherence and integrity of ICCT's overall IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Serve as an expert general resource for staff with questions on the Mac OS, Office applications, collaboration tools, or other software.
  • Provide an expert technical perspective to long-range strategic planning for IT policy and infrastructure to support the ICCT’s projected staff growth and expanding operations.
  • Relevant degree and 5–7 years relevant experience
  • Mac / Apple OS and iOS expertise
  • Experience administering an Office 365 tenant
  • Tech support experience; training experience desirable
  • Experience managing an Azure cloud environment desirable
  • Knowledge of information security issues, best practices, tools
  • Knowledge of data privacy issues, policy, regulations (present and forthcoming), best practices
