Electrical Engineer (m/w/d)

LUMENION is a cleantech start-up from Berlin and an active contributor to the energy transition. We use an innovative technology to store green electricity as high-temperature heat in steel storage modules (TES). In this way, we make renewable energies available at any time of day or year and solve a central problem of decarbonisation: fluctuations and temporal interruptions of wind and solar power.

From Berlin, we are constantly developing our solution with an eye on the dynamic situation of the energy markets in an international and highly motivated team. Only together can we shape the energy supply of tomorrow.

To support our team at our location in Berlin, we are looking for an

Electrical Engineer (m/w/d) in full-time

Your main tasks:

  • You develop and design the Thermal Energy Storage systems in close cooperation with the technical management and mechanical engineers as a team. Starting with the basic idea, this includes the evaluation of various solution approaches from the realization of a test and pilot plant to the preliminary planning of the first customer projects, designed for its needs, with storage sizes of up to 50 MWh
  • You develop and evaluate concepts for grid connection (using AC or DC, low- or medium-voltage, direct feed from PV-plants), grid integration, power setting and to heat up the storage core
  • You develop and evaluate control and automation technology for charging and discharging the storage core via steam generators or gas/water heat exchanger
  • You develop the metrological and instrumentation solutions for control and monitoring
  • You develop the preliminary design/draft and implementation planning of all electrotechnical components in line with costs, schedules and quality (standards and regulations)
  • Within procurement, you select system components and their suppliers, are the interface to the suppliers, review electrical wiring diagrams (hardware) as well as PLC-automation (software) which was specified together with the suppliers and developed by them, supervise production, assembly and construction, commissioning and acceptance
  • You collect data about project sites, visit the proposed sites and draw rough sketches of the location
  • You develop test procedures, for example for our existing pilot plant (2,4 MWh), run the tests, present them internally to the funding body and technical surveyors and verify them if functional requirements are fulfilled
  • The permanent location of this job is Berlin with the possibility of 15% travelling in Germany and worldwide
  • University degree in the fields of electrical engineering, automation technology, renewable energies, process engineering or comparable technical courses
  • A completed vocational training in the technical field and/or experience with medium-voltage level is welcomed
  • You are familiar with the relevant standards according to VDE, DIN-EN as well as electrical safety engineering
  • A good systemic understanding of measurement, control and regulation technology
  • Structured, goal-oriented and independent style of working, high degree of initiative and enjoy working within an interdisciplinary team
  • You are enthusiastic about shaping the decentralized energy supply of the future
