The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER) is looking for a

Junior Policy Analyst:

who will be part of the market and policy team working in the field of German energy transition regulations and markets as research fellow. The work is embedded in large research projects of the EDF group as well as public funded projects.

The position is based in Karlsruhe with a duration of initially 2 years starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on qualifications and experience according to TV-L (100%).

The European Institute for Energy Research was founded by EDF and the KIT in 2002 aiming at enhancing collaboration through projects applied to industrial issues and utilities’ needs. With its applied research orientation EIFER has been bridging the gap between science and industry for more than 20 years. In the context of the European energy transition, EIFER provides research-based innovative energy solutions for a sustainable future.

What you can expect:

  • Analysis and impacts of German and European policies, as well as market trends on topics, like electricity market design, regulation mechanisms for renewable energy or industries in transition, hydrogen economy, climate change & mitigation policies.
  • Apply and develop methodologies for policy analysis
  • Contribute to research projects for the strategic division of the EDF Group
  • Project development and acquisition of publicly funded or industry-financed projects
  • Support the team in the analysis of current German and European policies and market trends

What we expect 

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in energy economics, environmental or energy governance, political sciences with a strong energy focus or energy engineering 
  • 1-2 years of working experience in one or more of the above-mentioned areas
  • Experience with scientific research methods, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Successfully completed scientific/technical studies with reference to energy related topics

Desired profile:

  • First experiences in the acquisition, processing and management of research or industrial projects
  • Knowledge of the energy sector, industry and ongoing politics
  • Good understanding of the German and European Union political ecosystems
  • Strong interest in German policy making and analysis

Competences and skills:

  • Ability to work fluently in German and English (written and spoken), French is an asset.
